Worldwide Congress on Sustainability and Food Safety to he held in Brazil

FAO/ONU, IFIF and Sindirações will discuss, among other subjects,
environmental management, social responsibility, food safety and welfare

Sao Paulo, October 10, 2006 - After the great success of the first
edition, in 2005, FAO/ONU (Food and Agricultural Organization) and
IFIF (International Feed Industry Federation) will hold in Brazil,
for the second time, the “Global Feed & Food Congress”, event
organised by Sindirações (National Syndicate of the Animal Feed
Industry in Brazil). The event will take place in Sao Paulo, from 16
to 18 April 2007, and has as main theme “Sustainability: Producing
for everyone's welfare with quality, safety, responsibility,
preserving the environment”.

As in its first edition, participants from producing and consuming
countries, especially from United States, European Union, Latin
America and China, will attend the second “Global Feed & Food
Congress”. “In 2005, the Congress was a first step on the way to
more practical solutions. With the production of safe foods and the
use of Good Manufacturing Practices, respecting the environment, we
will diminish waste, improve the quality and the price of food,
create more jobs and increase both internal and external market
demands”, says Mario Sergio Cutait, president of Sindirações.

Cutait has many positive perspectives regarding next year. “The
first Congress was a success and the greatest proof of it is that FAO
and IFIF chose our country as host for its second edition. I have no
doubt we will end this meeting much closer to overcoming the big
challenges from this industry”, adds the executive. Some lectures
from “Global Feed & Food Congress” in 2007 are already defined and
will approach subjects such as: Global Programs against the lack of
food safety; Sustainability and Health; Solutions to preserving the
environment, Social and Corporate Programs, Sustainability and Social
Responsibility, and Biosafety and Biotechnology. Registrations have
already begun on the website www.globalfeed-food.com. The official
Congress program is also available on this address.

Held in June 2005, also in Sao Paulo, the Congress' first edition
gathered around 500 people, from 39 countries. Lecturers and audience
discussed issues that may come up again on the next meeting, linked
to all segments of the productive chain: from feed manufacturers,
agroindustries, veterinary and chemical industry, breeders, food
industries, retailers and even doctors and nutritionists, government
organizations, teaching and research institutions, among others.

Sustainability
Considered one of the biggest challenges from our time,
sustainability will permeate all discussions from the second edition
of the “Global Feed & Food Congress”. How to produce food for
everybody respecting the environment and assuring the population's
welfare? This matter is a growing concern to the civil society all
over the planet. Lecturers and guests hope to find an answer, for
there is a prediction that the world population will grow over 50%
until 2050, reaching 9 billion people.

And who is the future great grain supplier to feed the world?
Brazil is currently the third feed producer - with 47 millions of
tons produced per year - only behind the United States and China's
production. The Brazilian agribusiness is responsible for 1.8% of the
country's PIB, and it turns over US$ 9 billions a year. The feed
industry exports US$ 49.9 millions each year, according to
SINDIRAÇÕES, who celebrates the positive results from the past few
years. The feed industry grew over 8.6% in 2005, compared to the
already expressive 6.5% from the year before that.

With a population of over 186 millions of people, Brazil has today
one of the biggest consumer markets in the world. Around 80% of the
Brazilian food production is destined to the internal market and only
20% is shipped out to over 209 countries.

About IFIF
Founded in 1987, the objective of the International Feed Industry
Federation is to bring together national and local associations and
federations that are involved in the feeding and growing of food-
producing animals. One of its main missions is the organisation of
regional and international forums for scientific, technical and
commercial debates.

About SINDIRAÇÕES
Founded in 1953, SINDIRAÇÕES, the National Syndicate of the Animal
Feed Industry in Brazil, is a member of the IFIF Board and the main
representative of the Brazilian feed industry of ingredients, premix,
supplements and animal feeds. Based in São Paulo, the syndicate
gathers nearly 130 associates - that stand for over 80% of the market
of feed products -, and has as partners ASBRAM, Brazilian Association
of the Mineral Supplements Industry, and ANDIFÓS, National
Association for Sources of Phosphorous in Animal Feed.
