Financial Support for Young Scientists
November 7, 2006 - The IFIF is supporting the Professor Tielen Fund
Foundation (PTF), set up by the organising committee of the Xth
Congress on Animal Hygiene held in Maastricht in 2000, to attract
young scientists to its Congresses.
It aim in 2000 was to assist young scientists from developing
countries with the financial support needed to attend the Congress.
The Maastricht organising committee founded the 'Prof.Tielen
Foundation' (PTF) and dedicated it to this purpose and was successful
in its first year. Following the 2000 Congress, the PTF continued to
collect money from individual veterinarians and companies in support
young scientists.
To date, the PTF has supported the attendance of 55 young scientists
to the past three congresses coming from over 20 different developing
countries for a total amount of Euros 51,500. The last Congress, held
in September 2005 in Warsaw, saw the PTF support 15 young scientists
from 13 different countries.
The Board of the PTF decided to open again the opportunity for young
scientists from developing countries to apply for a grant to attend
the XIII congress of the ISAH from June 17-21, 2007 in Tartu, Estonia.
"We will be using the same design for the application for this
financial support as used for in the former congresses," says
Professor Tielen, who is also the President of the European Feed
Manufacturers Federation and an IFIF Board Member.
Young scientist from Eastern Europe can apply for a support of a
maximum of Euros 400 for the Congress fee and a part of their lodging
costs. Young scientist from developing countries can apply for an
additional contribution in the travel costs to a maximum of Euros 500.
