April 1, 2010: Mexico congress views Latin America’s feed outlook
CANCUN, MEXICO — Leaders of animal feed industries from throughout Latin America and the Caribbean are coming to Cancun in Mexico in April, for a congress that has emerged as pivotal in deliberations over the region’s further development in supplying the feeds for livestock production and aquaculture.
Advance registrations to attend the III Global Feed & Food Congress in Cancun on April 20-23, 2010, show substantial numbers from Mexico and Brazil, but also a strong level of representation from most other parts of the Latin American region.
“The congress in April is going to be a global meeting that also has a definite regional focus,” says Roger Gilbert, secretary-general of the International Feed Industry Federation. “This will be a unique opportunity for people from feed industries in all of Latin America to come together in an easily accessible location and hear what international experts have to say about critical issues for everyone.
“Feed Latina is the new regional federation that will hold its own meeting at the congress. From the estimates it has compiled, commercial mills in the region today produce about 120 million tonnes of animal feeds. But the demand for feed supplies could grow faster in Latin America over the next 10 years than in almost any other part of the world. This raises vitally important issues which the Cancun congress will address.”
The III Global Feed & Food Congress (see http://www.globalfeed-food.com) runs on dates of April 20-23, 2010, and is hosted by the Mexican Feed Manufacturers Association, CONAFAB. It is being organized by the International Feed Industry Federation (IFIF) with technical assistance from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
